It's not looking good for André Villas-Boas this morning as "crisis club Chelsea" or, more accurately, "colander-club Chelsea" given the amount of leaks in the
dressing room and defence, wake to headlines of three more Wat Tylers in the dressing room in open revolt at their manager. According to the Sun, the Portuguese
held clear the air talks with his squad on Sunday only to find the things said by Frank Lampard, Michael Essien and Ashley Cole were so severe they merited demotion to the bench for Tuesday's defeat by Napoli.
Cole is alleged to have said: "'I came here to win medals and trophies, but I'm never going to do that with your tactics." He didn't add that he nearly swerved off the road when contemplating said tactics so we can't gauge precisely the extent of his indignation but he is reputed to have added that he is made to feel like a "robot" when playing for Chelsea. Harsh words – and Villas-Boas was not impressed, going into Jaws: The Revenge mode to tell the left-back "you made it personal" and sticking him on the bench for 12 minutes.
At least Chelsea have got a manger, which is more than can be said forWolves who are understood to have been thwarted in their attempt to get Reading's Brian McDermott. He, reports the Birmingham Mail, is the 21st manager to be linked with the job following Steve Bruce, Roy Keane, Neil Warnock, Chris Hughton, Steve Bull, Sam Allardyce, Stuart Pearce, Lee Clark, Keith Downing, Gus Poyet, Brian McDermott, Rafael Benítez, Dougie Freedman, Ian Holloway, Ole Gunnar Solksjaer, Billy Davies, Paul Ince, Alex Rae, Dave Jones and Paolo Di Canio. Never fear, though Wolves fans, someone is interested in the job. The Express & Star reports that Ray Wilkins has said: "I believe there has been a bit of name-searching for the Wolves job and it would be lovely." Bless him.
While spreads are given over to AVB's post-mortem and analyses of Carlos Tevez's apology, genuine transfer scuttlebutt is restricted to snaps of about 16 words each tucked away at the bottom of the tabloids' pages. We learn from The Mail that Manchester City want Real Madrid's Gonzalo Higuaín but are refusing to swap him for Sergio Agüero. If Real ask for Carlos, however … The Star reckons Liverpoolwill conclude a £10m deal for the Sampdoria winger Jonathan Biabiany in the summer, are after Hertha Berlin's Raffael and will fightArsenal for Werder Bremen's Marko Marin.
Meanwhile the Express tells us that Neil Warnock has a break clause in his contract with Leeds United that allows him to leave at the end of the season should he find himself unable to coexist with Ken Bates. "The additional clause," the paper says, "allowing Warnock to walk away at the end of the season was included so the pair can always part on good terms." It also reports that the pair's meeting last week took was six hours of convivial fun, including discussions on who should pay for Warnock's petrol to and from training.
At least it makes a change from all this talk of crises and apologies which has pushed the lifeblood of the Mill completely off the page.
