Seventeen illegal miners are feared dead at Subriso –Fante ,near Tepa, in the Ahafo Ano North District of the Ashanti Region.
A pit in which they were working collapsed and trapped them on Monday . One of them, said to be a native of Subriso, escaped with injury but died the next day at
the Tepa Cocoa Clinic.
Manfo Area Stool Lands Officer, Peter Obeng Boateng, disclosed toLuv/Nhyira FM in Kumasi that only four bodies of the remaining sixteen have been retrieved and deposited at the hospital morgue.
The police have confirmed the incident and said four of the dead have been identified, but they are unable to confirm 17 people were in the pit at the time the pit collapsed.
