The new leader for the People’s National Convention (PNC) has taken a swipe at the two leading political parties- the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC)

and the New Patriotic Party (NPP)- describing them as failures and urged Ghanaians to look towards the emerging new political third force.

Hassan Ayariga, who was elected as the PNC flagbearer early this month, is convinced a new wave of vibrant leadership is born in the PNC and Ghanaians must get on board.

According to him, the two leading parties, which he described as teams A and B, have failed to improve the standards of living of Ghanaians despite their long years in government, and clamoured for the Nkrumaist government to be given a chance.

In an interview with Joy FM’s Super Morning Show on Wednesday, the Ayariga noted it was more difficult defeating Dr. Edward Mahama in the PNC primaries than defeating president John Mills in the election because Ghanaians are open minded, acquiescent and will be ready to take on board the new policy initiatives being disseminated by the PNC.

Touting some of the policies a PNC government will implement if elected into power, Ayariga said his government will introduce a new industrialization policy to equip the youth in many employable skills.

In the agricultural sector, he said a new irrigation system will be put in place to ensure the production of food crops throughout the year.

That he believed will be a major source of employment for the youth in the country.

PNC stagnation

According to Hassan Ayariga, the PNC suffered a long period of stagnation and dwindling fortunes under Dr. Mahama, who was largely unmarketable.

He stressed that the 16 years of stewardship by Dr. Mahama was in itself divisive, culminating in minor conflicts and resignation by some party members.

During that period the PNC, he revealed, could not even boast of 20 party offices nationwide, adding that efforts are now being made to open many more party offices across the country.

Likening the PNC politics to the principles of marketing, Hassan Ayariga said his predecessor was a difficult commodity to sell, but reassured followers of the party and Ghanaians as a whole that a new marketable commodity has emerged in the PNC which needs to be patronized.

Business acumen

Hassan Ayariga said his long years and experience in business will be crucial in how the country will be governed if elected into office.

He said with limited resources as a business man, he has largely been able to manage those resources with great success.

He is convinced of his ability to employ strategies that will ensure the little state resources are put to good use and to the benefit the majority of Ghanaians.

He is also open to unity talks with the splinter Nkrumaist groups, particularly the Convention People’s Party (CPP).
