Kenny Dalglish will have been left "shocked and distraught" by his sacking as Liverpool manager, according to former Anfield team-mate and close friend Alan Hansen.

Dalglish was dismissed after one full season in his second spell at Liverpool in which they won the Carling Cup and finished eighth in the Premier League.

London 2012: Olympic motto revealed as 100-day countdown begins

The motto for the London Olympics has been revealed as "Inspire a generation" as events are held to mark the 100-day countdown to the opening ceremony.

London 2012 chairman Seb Coe was at the unveiling of a giant set of Olympic rings, made up of 20,000 flowers, at Kew Gardens in west London.

Cricketer Yuvraj Singh, who underwent treatment for cancer in the United States, has returned to India after three months.

He underwent chemotherapy at a hospital in Indianapolis. Doctors say Yuvraj, 30, is expected to make a full recovery and resume his cricket career.

Briton Dan Wheldon dies in IndyCar race in Las Vegas

British IndyCar driver Dan Wheldon has died following a massive accident at the Las Vegas Indy 300. The Buckinghamshire-born star, 33, was one of 15 drivers involved in a crash at the second corner on lap 13 of the season-ending race.

Wheldon, who began IndyCar racing in 2002, was series champion in 2005 and won the Indy 500 in 2005 and 2011. Lewis Hamilton, 2008 Formula 1 world champion, said: "This is a tragic loss at such a young age." He added: "He was an extremely talented driver.
