Jo’burg cheap destination for expatriates

New York was used as the base city with an index of 100 points when comparing the cost of 200 items, including housing, transport, food, clothing, household goods and entertainment.

Pan African Festival attracts thousands

Zouaoui Benhamadi, an officer on the executive organizing committee said overall, 51 nations are taking part. The United States of America and Brazil are the guests of honor, since they both have significant populations of African origin.

A grand parade was observed through the streets of Algiers, from Sofia Park to Bab-El-Oued. Showboat-style floats from each African participating nation, along with thousands of performers, brought Algiers colorfully to life.

Zanzibar attracts tourists by e-marketing

She mentioned the new languages used to advertise Zanzibar as Chinese, French, Italian, and German through Internet, saying the response has been encouraging.

Although tourists and investors dominate the tourism industry, Zanzibar had been using English to advertise itself.

The Minister also said that international and national exhibitions (such as ITB -Berlin, BIR- Italy, WTM- London, INDABA- South Africa, TUR-Sweden, and SABASABA- Dar es Salaam) have been used to advertise Zanzibar.

'Tourism downturn won't hurt SA growth'

The UN World Tourism Organization has reported that Africa was the only region that showed notable tourism growth between January and April based on the same period over the previous year. Globally, the market shrank by 8 percent. Europe was worst hit – dropping a whopping 10 percent.
