It is important that, if you want to be successful, you know how to act on a date so let’s take a look at some proper dating etiquette tips which will help you not mess things up.
1. If this date is important treat it as such. Be on time and if you are going to be late give a courtesy call to let them know.
2. Arrive on time looking sharp and ready. Teeth brushed, hair combed. Nice appropriate clothes for where you are going out to. This is a sign of respect to your date.
3. Offer a short compliment. “You look nice”, or “nice to see you again.”
4. Body language is important on a date. Be relaxed and smile. Make eye contact and focus on what your date is saying.
5. Be polite. This could mean drinking less than you normally do. Don’t be a pig when you eat. Keep your smoking to a minimum if you smoke.
6. As a general rule proper dating etiquette means do not discuss poiltics or religion. You do not want to be arguing on a date. That is a good rule in most social settings anyway.
7. Act appropriately for the setting you are in. You do not need to be the center of attention. Focus it on your date.
8. Do not swear or use vulgar language in the conversation.
9. Keep previous relationships tucked away for another time. Do not discuss them now.
10. Be truthful. Do not embellish. Lying can come back to haunt you later.
11. Never tell lies. If you do, it will eventually catch up with you. There is nothing more embarrassing than being caught in a lie.
12. Ask questions and listen to the responses. Do not come across like you are interviewing your date.
13. Never talk about money or brag about things you have.
14. It is still proper for the man to pay if you are at dinner unless you have agreed on splitting the bill or the women paying beforehand.
15. No sex on the first date.
16. Only call one time and then wait for a call back. Do not call over and over. It makes you look desperate.
Proper dating etiquette is acting appropriately for the situation you are in and it is all about being polite. These are only guidelines and should be common sense. Each date is different so act accordingly.
